Auditions

The Central City Chorus has openings in all sections for strong singers and enthusiastic performers. The Chorus enjoys lively rehearsals on Thursday evenings from September through May, and our concerts are held on Saturday evenings and occasional Sunday afternoons. The repertoire for the 2007-2008 three-concert calendar includes portions of J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (with orchestra and guest soloists), motets by Brahms and Schütz, contemporary music by Eric Whitacre, Kirke Mechem, and Aaron Jay Kernis, and a new commission by Kristin Kuster, winner of the prestigious American Composers Orchestra 2004 Underwood Emerging Composers Commission. In recent years the Chorus has performed Bach's Magnificat, the Brahms German Requiem, Mozart's C Minor Mass, and Mendelssohn's Elijah with orchestra, as well as numerous a cappella works spanning five centuries of music. The forty-member chorus is led by Stephen Black, artistic director since 2005, with assistant conductor Brian Hamer.

Our next new-member audition will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Auditions are held at our rehearsal space at the Church of St. John the Baptist Parish Hall, 210 West 31st Street, NYC. To schedule an audition please call (917) 239-0919 and leave a message.
